Build in Gypsum

Whether you're remodeling, building a new home, proposing a development, or working on a commercial project, your steps will depend on the specifics of your project. In all cases, construction cannot begin until a building permit has been issued.

Steps for Larger Projects

(Examples: new homes, commercial buildings, developments, additions, or Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU))

  1. Develop your plans.
Review plan requirementsbuilding codes, and zoning regulations. Determine whether your project requires approval from a Design Review Board (DRB) or HOA.
  2. Apply for a Building Permit.
Fill out and submit the Building Permit Application to the Town.
  3. Submit your building plans.
Upload plans for review through our online Plan Submittal portal (link also available to the right)

Note: Solar panel projects do require plan submittal, review, and a permit. Please use the Building Plan Submittal button above for solar installations.

Steps for Smaller Projects

(Examples: new roofs, electrical panel upgrades, plumbing fixture replacements)

If your project does not require plans, simply complete the appropriate one-time permit application below:

Additional Reminders

Contractor Licensing: All contractors must hold a current Town of Gypsum contractor’s license.

Construction Hours & Inspections: Follow Gypsum’s construction hours & site conditions regulations, and schedule building inspections as needed.

Change Orders

If you need to change any methods, materials, or designs during construction, you must receive written approval from the Town before making the change. Unapproved changes may result in a work stoppage until the revision is reviewed, approved, and inspected.

Use Tax Refund (Residential Only)

If you plan to apply for a Use Tax Refund, please contact the Building Department Administrator before purchasing any building materials. The process is a bit complex, and we’re happy to walk you through it. More information is available here.
