Highway 6 Segment 1

The image depicts a highway design plan under a railroad bridge, showing lane configurations and proposed changes.
It's a map showing a route with labeled landmarks and highways, likely indicating directions or a specific area near Gypsum Creek.

Project Name: Highway 6 Segment 1 (I-70 to Valley Rd)
Start Date: Design work started in 2025

Project Duration: Design work expect to last through 2027. Construction to follow depending on funding. Construction is estimated to last 2 years.

Project location/address: Highway 6 from the I-70 Interchange to the Valley Road Roundabout.

Project Status: Concept designs were completed in 2025. Preliminary design has started in 2026 and will continue through final design in 2027. Construction timing is dependent on funding with no estimated start of work at this time.

Project Description: The Town completed an update to it's master traffic study in 2024. This study has continued to indicate the need to expand highway 6 to 2 through lanes in each direction through all of Town. One of the critical segments is the section from the I-70 interchange to the new Valley Road Roundabout. The Town has contracted with Theorem Design Group to work through the design of this project. This included a preferred design that was selected as a result of the concept design effort in 2025. Staff is now working with Theorem on the design process through 2026 and 2027. There is no identified construction funding at this time for this project.

The project is currently expected to include:

  • Improvements to the South I-70 Roundabout to 2 lanes northbound and southbound.
  • Modifications to the existing bridge over the Eagle River
  • New roundabout at the entrance to the American Gypsum Plant
  • Improved T intersection with improved site distance at Railroad Avenue
  • New railroad bridge structure over highway 6 and Gypsum Creek
  • Re-alignment of Gypsum Creek
  • New bridge structure for highway 6 over Gypsum Creek
  • Pedestrian connectivity improvements
  • Landscaping
